GEORGE NEWS - A resident on a smallholding in the vicinity of the Garden Route Mall strangled her neighbours’ beloved Staffordshire cross bull terrier last night, Thursday 2 November.
The woman is around 25 years old.
A livid SPCA Senior Inspector Salome Bruyns told the George Herald: “Last night I received a call on the SPCA emergency number from a resident in the vicinity of the Mall saying his dog had been ‘murdered’.”
Bruyns found the dead dog tied to a water pump with a piece of wire still around its neck.
The woman admitted that she had killed the dog as it had allegedly attacked her.
“What angered me was that she only had scratch marks on her arms, no bite wounds. I can’t understand why she never phoned the SPCA if she had a problem with the dog," said Bruyns.
"To strangle a dog is very cruel - we estimate it takes about five minutes for a dog to die from throttling. The police were on the scene and she admitted to me in front of the police that she did strangle the dog."
A case has been opened at the police.
