GEORGE NEWS - George Herald congratulates Southern Cape police spokesperson Lt Col Malcolm Pojie. Yes - you read correctly!
Pojie was officially promoted to the rank of Lt Col on Tuesday 1 November and will be trading the beautiful Southern Cape for Cape Town soon when he takes up position at the Provincial Media Centre on 1 December.
Pojie's esteemed colleague and friend, Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, will be taking over the reins.
While it will be sad to see him go, we at George Herald are proud of him and we believe his promotion is well and truly deserved.
Whether he has crossed your path in person or you've seen his name splashed all over the media (in a good way), Pojie has become a firm favourite and a popular face in the Southern Cape.
He joined the police force in May 1986 and moved from Stellenbosch to George shortly thereafter. Ten years later he took rank as a sergeant and in 2004 Pojie became a captain in the police force and joined their provincial media and communications department.
In 2016 Pojie was rewarded with a 30-year Loyal Service Medal and hopefully he'll hang around long enough for the next one.
"It's been a great honour and privilege to serve the Southern Cape community and I believe I've managed to leave a meaningful legacy of camaraderie, friendship and inter-governmental relationships behind," said Pojie.
"I was privileged to engage and foster lifelong relationships with colleagues and counterparts from media to the clergy fraternities. I will treasure each and every relationship and hope to be back home soon. A huge gesture of gratitude to my family for their ongoing support."
