GEORGE NEWS - Learners of Kretzenshoop Primary School enjoyed the opportunity to make friends at the Association for the Physically Disabled (APD) in Pacaltsdorp during a buddy day outreach.
This initiative of George Municipality's Community Services, Gender and Disability Department, aims to foster inclusion, understanding and friendship between able-bodied and disabled children, through shared activities and experiences.
Disability Rights Awareness Month is celebrated annually from 3 November to 3 December in South Africa.
At the APD, 70 people are accommodated: 50 children and 20 adults. The schoolchildren were quizzed about their understanding of disabilities and participated in an informative session on how the staff at the APD assist, teach and support members in learning skills.
The individuals assisted at the APD have physical and mental disabilities.
