GEORGE NEWS - The body of a 33-year-old man who was swept away while attempting to cross a low-water bridge at Waboomskraal last night was recovered just after 08:00 this morning, following an extensive search operation.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies, two men were crossing a low-water bridge at Palmiet Drift, Waboomskraal, at about 17:00 yesterday, 4 June, when they experienced difficulty.
One of the men disappeared in the water and authorities were notified.
Police immediately responded to the scene but their search was unsuccessful. A team of police divers was dispatched to the area this morning after a local farmer spotted the body.
The body of the deceased was subsequently retrieved from the water by police divers. The investigation is continuing.
