GEORGE NEWS - Residents are encouraged to get baking and support children with cancer as National Cupcake Day takes place this Saturday, 26 September.

This year, local supporters of Cupcakes of Hope are partnering with the Garden Route Mall for the fundraising initiative. 

The team will be based at the Mugg & Bean court, where members of the public can support the cause.

One of the biggest needs is for people to bake cupcakes and bring them along on the day. Whether it is one dozen, two or several, every cupcake can help raise funds and awareness for children affected by cancer.

Donations of baking ingredients are also welcome, particularly flour and sugar. These can be dropped off at Awnings & Blinds at the Pick n Pay entrance of 4th Street Mall, opposite Hope Church.

The initiative raises funds for Cupcakes of Hope, an organisation supporting children with cancer and their families.

Local businesses and community members have already started contributing; The Daily Coffee Shop donated flour and sugar towards the campaign.

But the call is still out for more bakers, ingredients and supporters to get involved.
