GEORGE NEWS - Up-and-coming George-based fashion designer Austin Lee will deliver a motivational talk at the Africa Youth Day 2017 celebration that will take place on Wednesday 1 November at the Rosemoor Civic Centre.
Lee recently returned from Port Elizabeth where he attended the Nelson Mandela Bay Fashion Week. Organiser Hein Scheepers has promised a day of fun and culture to celebrate the young people of the continent. "There will be hip hop, song, dance, poetry, bands, reggae, dancehall and an open mic section and much more."
Africa Youth Day came into being after the African Union heads of state met in Banjul, Gambia in July 2006, where they endorsed the African Youth Charter.
"Africa Youth Day is set aside every year to promote the increased recognition of youth as key agents for social change, economic growth and sustainable development in all areas of African society," says Scheepers.
"It is an occasion to celebrate the youth on the continent and an opportunity to contribute and channel youth motivation, energy and creativity towards political, social and economic renewal."
