GEORGE NEWS - She's an angel on earth for the dogs of Borcherds and for nearly three years Marileen Greeff has been voluntarily feeding and medically treating hundreds of dogs in this indigent area.
However, to keep doing this, she needs help and donations from the community and our visitors to keep her project, Borcherds Paws, going and to enable her to help more animals.
Rock bottom
Borcherds Paws urgently needs dog food as Greeff goes out every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and whenever she is needed to feed the dogs of Borcherds. She currently feeds about 500 dogs per week.
"I desperately need dog food. I finished the last bit of food earlier this week. The misery out there is heart-breaking, and I can't do what I do without the donations from our wonderful community in George, and the assistance from the welfare organisations in the area," she said.
Greeff said one of her other big challenges is unsterilised dogs.
The PDSA has sterilisation vouchers available and businesses in the area, as well as individuals, are challenged to get involved and buy some vouchers to enable them to assist Greeff to sterilise as many dogs as they can. Each voucher, providing for the sterilisation of one animal, costs R400.
Throughout her time working with the dogs in Borcherds, Greeff has also received much-needed assistance from the Garden Route SPCA and Oudtshoorn Dogs in Need.
If anyone is willing to donate towards her cause, please contact Greeff on 066 174 3239. Food and donations can also be dropped off at 11 Buitekant Street, George Industrial.
