GEORGE NEWS - New Dawn Park in Pacaltsdorp has been identified as a hotspot for high levels of gender-based violence (GBV). Therefore, Legally You in association with the Pacaltsdorp police, will share the opening of their 16 Days of Activism with this community.
Due to the lack of infrastructure, it is difficult to host a stationary awareness event. They have decided to organise a roadshow through New Dawn Park on Saturday 23 November between 09:30 and 13:30. They will be recognised by their branded vehicles that will stop at strategic points to engage with residents and raise awareness about GBV.
Eden FM will provide live outside broadcast coverage, ensuring greater reach and community engagement throughout the event.
"We aim to deliver essential services, promote education, and create visibility for everyone who is committed to the fight against GBV," says Legally You founder, Advocate Marilyn Scheepers Olifant.
The 16 Days of Activism against GBV is an annual international campaign that starts on 25 November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

Organisers hope to raise awareness about GBV through active community engagement and to reach a wider area in New Dawn Park with this awareness drive.
"We want to strengthen partnerships with stakeholders, including government, the police and NGOs, while we educate residents on available services and encourage reporting of GBV cases," says Scheepers Olifant.
