SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - To all those who live and work in the Eden district, those visiting or passing through, and to those yet to come, I have the privilege to welcome you to our beautiful district.
As the name suggests, it truly is the "Garden of Eden", with its awesome Outeniqua Pass and the long stretches of beach from Hessequa to Plettenberg Bay, most of which, we are proud to say, have been awarded Blue Flag status.
We cannot forget our Klein Karoo semi-desert, with its rolling fynbos and the majestic, mighty Swartberg and Langeberg mountains that accommodate our famous Cango Caves.
We are thankful to be part of and live in a wonderful district that has so many places to visit and such wonderful sights to see. We will endeavour to keep the standard of service delivery during the holidays and festive season at the highest possible levels, from all our municipalities and government departments, business associates and partners within the district.
As we approach the festive season with the extra influx of tourists and holidaymakers, I urge you to be tolerant and to please use the water resources wisely and sparingly. Besides all of the above, I wish you all to keep safe, stay healthy and enjoy the time spent with family and loved ones.
To our holidaymakers, I would like to suggest the top three tourist attractions in each town.
Plettenberg Bay: Birds of Eden, Plett Winelands and adventure activities.
Knysna: Oysters and Slow-Food options, Micro Breweries, cycling and mountain biking trails.
George: Paragliding in Wilderness, World Class Golf courses, the Map of Africa view point and visiting 6 beautiful beaches.
Mossel Bay: Visiting Blue Flag beaches, the Bartolomeu Dias Museum complex and the Point of Human Origin.
Hessequa: Aloe factories, Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve and Inverroche Distillery.
Oudtshoorn: Cango Caves, Ostrich Farms and Buffelsdrift Game Lodge.
Calitzdorp: Calitzdorp Arts and Crafts Meander, Donkey Trails and Guided Historical walks through town.
Please remember the elderly and those who may be alone during the holidays. Do not forget to extend a helpful hand to the less fortunate and those in need. Let us remember our pawed friends; make sure they are properly looked after and kept safe too.
Happy holidays, Merry Christmas and may 2017 be blessed and prosperous for all.
