The Power Van on the route through the Outeniquas.
GEORGE NEWS - A trip into the Outeniqua Mountains with the Power Van is one of the most popular activities that the whole family can enjoy.
Experience magnificent mountain views and beautiful fynbos veld from up close with a knowledgeable guide who talks about the fauna and flora, and the history of George and the railways.
The two-hour return trip from the Outeniqua Transport Museum is a truly unique rail experience in the quaint Power Van that was used previously as a railway inspection vehicle. Clouds and rain do not detract from this experience as the mountains are then transformed into a magical fairyland with lovely waterfalls.
Groups and individuals are welcome. Book immediately upon arrival in the Southern Cape as the trips are filled up very quickly. Phone 044 801 8239 or 082 490 5627 (SMSes welcome).
During December, three trips per day depart at 08:00, 11:00 and 14:00. There are no trips on Sundays.
Visitors can bring their own picnic or order one in advance from the restaurant at the Transport Museum.
