GEORGE NEWS - The chairperson of the George branch of the taxi organisation Uncedo, Welele Mbudede (60), died in a rain of bullets outside his house in Zone 6 in Thembalethu at about 20:45 last night, Wednesday 1 March.
Police have not officially released the identity of the deceased in last night’s shooting, but several reliable sources have confirmed Mbudede’s murder.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, “two men opened fire on a 60-year-old man and a family member outside their house. The family member managed to run into the house but not before he was shot in the leg. He was taken to hospital for medical care.”
Mbudede sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died outside his house.
Spies says the suspects fled the scene and are still at large.
“The motive for the attack is yet to be established and forms part of the ongoing police investigation. All leads are being followed up.”
A murder docket and one of attempted murder has been opened for investigation.
