GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality is starting work on two streets in the George municipal area in June and asks residents and road users for patience while the work is in progress.
Triumph Street
Upgrading of Triumph Street in Protea Park, between Park Road and Miller/Rietbok Street, starts this week and is expected to run until the end of August, weather and circumstances permitting.
Residents of Triumph Street will have access to their properties for the duration of the construction period, but the street will be closed to general traffic.
Site access will be managed and communicated to local residents to ensure minimum disruption.
Access to the site will be strictly controlled. People wanting to enter the site will have to comply with the relevant National State of Disaster: Covid-19 regulations.
Buses will not be operating along Triumph Street for the duration of the construction period. Please refer to social media communications from Go George for temporary alternative arrangements.
Municipal services such as water and electricity may be temporarily disrupted during reconnections, and the public is asked to keep an eye on social media for advance notification of planned temporary disruptions.
Wellington Street
The reconstruction of a portion of Wellington Street, between Courtenay and Aspeling streets, is most likely to start on Monday 22 June. This project is also expected to run until the end of August, weather and circumstances depending.
Sections of the street may be closed daily from 07:30 to 17:00, and site access will be managed and communicated to affected residents and businesses.
Temporary bus stops will be provided when required. Municipal services such as water and electricity may be temporarily disrupted during construction. Advance notification of planned temporary disruptions will be communicated via social media.
Civil Engineering director Regenald Wesso appealed to road users to be patient and exercise caution during the upgrade. “Please look out for and adhere to temporary road signage and roadworks personnel,” he said.
