GEORGE NEWS - The George Herald Citizen of the Month for September is awarded to Alet van Tonder, marketing and corporate relations manager at the NMMU George Campus, for her passion in promoting George as a centre of learning.
Her colleague, Pieter van Rensburg, who nominated Alet, describes her as a person who lives her passion for promoting George and especially educational training in the Southern Cape.
"She is totally devoted to marketing NMMU at every forum and from every angle. Alet is instrumental in ensuring that the university is in the printed media and available on social media with all the news, no matter how small or insignificant it may be to some."
Alet has been managing the marketing department for the past six years and has excelled in making the NMMU brand recognisable to everyone in the Southern Cape and further afield.
She also makes it her business to ensure that the broader community of George benefits from the activities of the campus and will always encourage students to get involved with outreach activities off campus.
This she does with restricted and limited resources. She is a perfectionist and is serious about detail - making sure everything is planned and the unforeseen covered - she is proactive and an excellent communicator.
