GEORGE NEWS - A hair stylist and active DJ from Zone 7 in Thembalethu is set to make a difference in the lives of learners who can't afford school wear, sanitary pads and stationery.
With the start of every school year in February, Sandile Mncube (27), also known as "International DJ", runs a donation drive for essential items needed in primary schools and Thembalethu communities.
This year is no different, and Mncube is hard at work with the distribution of items throughout the township.
"I am touched by the plight of children," says Mncube. "I learned how many children are struggling to afford uniforms and sanitary pads in order to go to school. They face direct humiliation at the hands of their fellow school mates, because they don't have school wear and other school items. That alone drove me to collect and buy school items out of my own pocket," he said.
"My dream is to see children across the Southern Cape region going to school and getting an education."
