GEORGE NEWS - The George Municipality and Garden Route District fire departments have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming fire season, which in the Western Cape is usually from around November to March, depending on conditions.
The municipalities have been combining efforts and performing controlled block burns above the emergency airbase that forms the centre of the district's aerial fire response.
As the area is near residential areas George Municipality maintains a major fire lane above the city, which played a significant role in protecting homes on the urban edge during the fires that burned above George in October / November 2018.
