GEORGE NEWS - A Conville police officer sustained serious injuries to his neck and shoulder after he was stabbed by a suspect during a scuffle in Melford Notshokovo Street, Lawaaikamp, yesterday, Saturday 6 August.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, the circumstances surrounding the attack are under investigation.
"Information available at this stage indicates that police were dispatched to a scene where three men were involved in a fight. Upon arrival police came under attack and a scuffle ensued, resulting in serious injury of the sergeant from Conville," he said.
The suspect fled the scene on foot in the direction of Thembalethu where he was later arrested by reinforcements deployed in the area.
The policeman sustained stab wounds to his shoulder and neck. He was transported to hospital where he is receiving medical care. He is still in a serious condition.
The suspect was also hospitalised and discharged later.
He remains in police custody and is facing a charge of attempted murder. He is due to appear in court later this week.
