GEORGE NEWS - The manager of the George Airport and chairperson of the George Business Chamber, Brenda Vorster, has asked people not to cancel their holidays but still come to the Garden Route. There are other attractions in this beautiful part of the country, besides the beaches.
She said the closing of the beaches didn't have a huge impact on the airport. There haven't been many cancellations of flights. "Just one or two. It is not a major issue. Flights are not 100% full. Flights are about 60 to 70% of their capacity."
She is grateful that the airport is at least getting passengers, and reiterated the importance of keeping to the Covid safety regulations. "We must make sure the airport is safe. We have got Covid monitors all over the airport. We just want to make sure people follow the protocols and encourage them to follow social distancing at the airport and public spaces. They must comply with the regulations."
Passengers must arrive two hours before departure. She added, "We won't allow anybody with high temperature (above 36 degrees) in the terminal."
She said that January is likely to be more busy with departing passengers.
