GEORGE NEWS - The Nelson Mandela University George Campus will remain closed for all recreational activities until disaster management authorities deem it safe to reopen them.
In a press release today, Monday 21 December, campus management reiterated its commitment to ensuring the health and safety of the staff and students who are living on campus.
The university pleaded with the extended George community to honour this commitment and not use the George campus for recreational or any other purposes.
“No activities will be allowed until such time as the local and national disaster management authorities deem it necessary in line with the Covid-19 safety measures,” said Milisa Piko, spokesperson of the George campus. “As such, cycling, biking, hiking and walking is prohibited.”
As per university protocols, the campus will not be accessible to people without the necessary permits.
“The safety of our campus community is of paramount importance in these trying times as we strive to implement all Covid-related health and safety measures in line with government regulations. We are unable to do so when there is ongoing unauthorised access to the campus for recreational purposes,” Piko said.
The university trusts that George residents understand these challenges and will seek alternative recreational venues until the pandemic is behind us.
