GEORGE NEWS - The Directorate of Human Settlements is currently in the process of completing subsidy applications with beneficiaries who have been identified for the housing projects on Erf 325 in Pacaltsdorp and the Metro Grounds in Borcherds.
People who registered their names on the Housing Demand Database (waiting list) from 1994 to 2003 are asked to urgently contact the New Housing Department if their personal details and addresses have changed.
To qualify for a housing subsidy, beneficiaries must meet the following criteria:
a) Must be a South African.
b) Must be competent to contract.
c) Has not yet benefited from government assistance.
d) Has not yet owned a fixed residential property.
e) Is married or habitually cohabiting with a partner.
f) Is single with financial dependents. (Dependents as stipulated in the National Housing Code.)
k) Persons classified as military veterans.
l) Earn less than R3 500 per month.
m) Persons classified as aged without financial dependents.
n) Must have been on the demand housing database (waiting list) for three years or longer.
o) Persons classified as disabled with or without financial dependants. The disability categories are as follows:
- Walking – Walking aids
- Walking – Wheelchair - partial and or full-time usage
- Hearing – Profoundly or partially deaf
- Vision loss – Partially or totally blind
- Limited or no use of upper body limbs – partial or total movement loss / paralysis in the upper body limbs.
Persons who have received an invitation letter to complete a subsidy application for either the Metro Grounds or Erf 325 housing project should urgently visit the New Housing Department at the corner of St Johns and Varing streets to finalise their subsidy application.
