GEORGE NEWS - Police are looking for a Malawian citizen, Slajie Jolo Chimwadza (21), suspected of statutory rape. The alleged rape occurred between January and February 2019.
According to Thembalethu police communications officer, Capt Dumile Gwavu, it is alleged that the suspect had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl in Zone 9.
"He was arrested on 13 February 2019 and appeared in the George Magistrate's Court where he was granted bail on 18 March that year," said Gwavu.
The accused was supposed to appear in court on 2 April 2019, but it is believed that he fled to Cape Town. Anyone with information is asked to contact Capt Freddy Muller of the Thembalethu detective branch on 044 802 8953.
A search has also been launched for Lucky Vembane from Zone 7, Thembalethu, after a warrant of arrest was issued against him by the Thembalethu Magistrate's Court. Vembane was arrested on 10 November 2018 for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
He appeared in court two days later where he was warned to be back later that month. Vembane however failed to return to court as warned.
