GEORGE NEWS - Police have opened an inquest docket after the body of a man was recovered from the shoreline near Oubaai yesterday, Thursday 5 January.
This comes after the local man was reported missing when he did not return from a walk along the shoreline the previous day.
NSRI Wilderness and NSRI Mossel Bay responded to Oubaai to assist police, the George fire and rescue services, WC Government Health EMS and Oubaai Security searching for the man.
Fire and Rescue Services had launched a drone to assist in the search and a private helicopter also assisted.
According to NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon, crew were deployed to assist emergency services in the search along the shoreline while two NSRI Wilderness rescue craft and an NSRI Mossel Bay rescue craft joined in the search from the sea side.
“While NSRI rescue craft were approaching the scene it was reported that the body of a man was located in a rocky area in the surf along the shoreline. The body of the man was recovered onto an NSRI rescue craft and brought to the NSRI Mossel Bay rescue station where the body was taken into the care of the police and government health forensic pathology services. It is believed that the body recovered is that of the missing man,” said Lambinon.
