GEORGE NEWS -The George Municipality together with the Department of Social Development is in the process of establishing a Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC).
The first meeting and workshop was held on Friday 9 November at the Department of Health.
Initiating a workable and holistic approach to curbing alcohol and drug abuse in our communities is the first step to claim back our communities.
Portfolio Councillor of Community and Social Development, Sean Snyman, said huge steps are being taken toward a uniformed approach in addressing both alcohol and substance abuse.
The programme focuses on supply, demand, treatment and care. The fact that all the local and provincial government departments, together with national institutions, can now take hands with business, NGOs, and relevant role players, will make the institution of such programmes possible.
The next meeting will take place on Friday 25 January 2019. All NGOs, government departments and members of the community, as well as faith-based institutions who want to contribute to addressing the social ills of our communities, are welcome to attend.
