GEORGE NEWS - Well-known businessman, Wilfred (Oubaas) Sauer, passed away last week Tuesday 6 August after suffering a massive stroke and will be laid to rest on Saturday 17 August.
Oubaas, as he was known to everyone, was born on 8 September 1966 in George to Gert and Sophia (Sally) Sauer and lived in Borcherds and Dellville Park, respectively.
He attended Pacaltsdorp Primary School and Pacaltsdorp High School until he had to leave school in Grade 11 due to illness. His father was a businessman in the building trade and Oubaas always assisted him during holidays and weekends, hence Oubaas' career in the plumbing and building trade was born.
Oubaas started his entrepreneurial journey when he opened his own business in 1989, named Sauer Plumbing. He eventually branched out into construction, plumbing and earth moving and renamed his business Sauer Plumbing & Plant Hire.
Oubaas had a passion, pride and love for his work as is evident in the projects that he worked on across the Garden Route and greater Western Cape. His influence is evident in Pacaltsdorp with a street where he developed properties, Sauer Close, named after him.
In the struggling economy and building trade, Oubaas always arose like a phoenix from the ashes and persevered until the very end. This was also evident when he had to retire due to illness in 2015.
Oubaas showed the same fighting spirit until the very end of his life and survived five strokes and cancer before the sunset of his life.
Oubaas' life will be celebrated at a requiem mass today, Thursday 15 August, at 19:00 in the St Alban's Anglican Church, Pacaltsdorp. The funeral service will be held on Saturday 17 August at 10:0 at 45 Antelope Street, Delville Park, Pacaltsdorp and the church service will be held at 11:00 at St Alban's Anglican Church, Pacaltsdorp.
Public Transport will be available on Saturday from the Thembalethu Mall (08:30), Hypersave Pacaltsdorp (09:00), New Dawn Park Primary (09:30) and Pacaltsdorp Police Station (09:45).
Oubaas is survived by his daughter, Britney, his son-in-law, his siblings, nieces and nephews."Papi, we will continue to build on your legacy and strive to emulate you in all that we do." -
