GEORGE NEWS - The 2023 Junior City Council (JCC) executive committee was announced at their year-end function last week, with George Mayor Leon van Wyk as keynote speaker. In his speech, Van Wyk stressed the importance of youth leadership.
Messages of support were delivered by outgoing JCC members and George councillors Thandiswa Qatana and Marais Kruger, who act as the overseers for the JCC, as well as Chief Whip of George Council Marlene Barnardt.
The senior JCC members received their JCC badges in the presence of their proud parents.
The JCC was established as a forum that represents the interests of high school learners and to promote and broaden their knowledge of the Local government sector.
The forum consists of representatives from Grades 10 and 11 and have been actively involved, over the past years, in community development and upliftment activities.
The JCC has been adopted by the mayor's office, through the appointed delegates who in this council term are Qatana and Kruger.
