GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Garden Route District Municipality’s toughest firefighter, Emile Conrad, and his Capetonian teammates flew the South African flag high at the Aramco Oil Company Saudi Arabia Toughest Firefighter Alive (TFA) Competition from 21 November to 27 November.
Conrad and two City of Cape Town counterparts, Baigum Abrahams and Alno Kroon, competed in the event.
Conrad came third in the TFA qualifiers and fourth overall in the Final TFA competition on the last day of the event.
The team achieved first place in the TFA relay competition and also third place overall in the Ithra Stair running competition.
Abrahams came third overall in the female TFA category, first in the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Dress Challenge and first in the PPE Dress Relay challenge. Alno Kroon won gold in the male PPE Dress Challenge.
The event also included mixed relay teams, which allowed members to integrate males and females from different teams (countries) in the event. This team consisted of Conrad and Abrahams Ali from Saudi Arabia.
The PPE challenge included the following:
- sprint 40m
- don structural firefighting trouser and boots
- sprint 40m
- don structural firefighting jacket and flash hood
- sprint 40m
- don helmet and gloves
- sprint 40m and don self-contained breathing apparatus set.
