GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Garden Route police members deployed during the weekend in high crime density operations, net 51 suspects for drug-related offences over the weekend, from 19 January till early Sunday morning, 21 January.
The operations included the deployment of members attached to the District Crime Combatting Team, Public Order Police, K9-unit and local crime prevention.
Most of these arrests were effected in Oudtshoorn (12) and Da Gamaskop (10). The police confiscated dagga, tik, heroin and mandrax tablets during these operations. The largest quantities were confiscated in George.
On Friday, 19 January, the team responded to a tip-off from the public about illegal drug activities. They operationalised the information and searched a vehicle parked in Market Street, George where the members found 939 dagga zols and 18 bankies of dagga inside the vehicle.
The drugs as well as a scale were seized. A 36-year-old man was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Later the same day, the team armed with a search warrant, raided a house in Nieuwoudt Street, Rosemore in George. A search of the house led to the confiscation of 100 mandrax tablets. A 36-year-old man found inside the house, was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.
All those arrested are expected to make their respective court appearances once charged.
