GEORGE NEWS - Thembalethu police station commander, Colonel Douw Herbst, has warned criminals not to take chances during this festive season as they will find themselves dealing with the full might of the law.
Herbst said extra police will be deployed in and around Thembalethu, especially in areas that have been identified as crime hotpots. He said the police will do everything in their power to ensure that criminals don't have a space to breathe this summer.
"We will be closing down illegal liquor traders and also ensure that those who have licenses adhere to the terms and conditions of their licenses. We have realised that most criminal activities take place at these places, where people become either victims or perpetrators of crime. Therefore we will focus on these places," said Herbst.
He also advised people not to consume too much liquor but to enjoy it in reasonable quantities, so as to avoid becoming either victims of crimes or suspects in criminal cases.
"We appeal to the public not to bring liquor to the beaches, as liquor is not allowed there. We also advise the public to make sure they lock their houses before they leave and ensure that their vehicles are locked at all times.
"Also please look after your kids; don't leave them alone. People are entitled to enjoying themselves, but they must do so responsibly," said Herbst.
