GEORGE NEWS - Every school needs a community to support it. Without the community a school will struggle to develop and grow as it should. Where strong community involvement support is gained, strong identity is developed, and consequently recognisable fruit is produced in the children.
A question was once asked to a group of people (not teachers) what change they’d like to see in the school in their area?
Different answers were presented, such as: “we want to see them whole”; “we want to see children with a strong character” etc. When the same question, however, was asked to teachers, different, much more practically oriented answers were given: “we would like them to greet us with respect”; “we want to see them do their homework”; “we would like to see them not smoke during break time”.
Both angles and perspectives are important. Lofty goals and more practical goals both speak of the same heart of transformation. Our children need help to transform into the best they can be and to fulfil their purpose within their gift set.
Community support is crucial for any school and thus our call for support. Patria Family Church and Tramonto: Farm and Fellow Guesthouse are working with Heatherlands High School towards assisting the school in the transformational process through practical training and contact with the children.
Heatherlands High School’s pupils come from all over the Southern Cape and parents of this school do not live in this area. We are working with the department of education to help support this school community. The more we can interact with the children, the more we can impart value and truth, and support the teachers who work hard at equipping the next generation.
The ‘Celebrating Heatherlands’ fundraiser evening is aimed at profiling the school and raising funds to support the training and infrastructure required.
The event will be an evening of fun and celebration with good food and good company. The fundraiser will constitute purchasing a table of either 8 or 10 persons at R200 pp. Each table is required to come up with a fun theme - an opportunity to dress up! Each table needs to be decorated according to their theme.
Tramonto will provide cream or white tablecloths, cutlery, glasses and plates. Meet the teachers and some of the children and be part of the transformation!
