GEORGE NEWS - A Lupus Awareness Walk took place at Unity Park in York Street yesterday morning, Saturday 25 May.
Those affected by the disease spread awareness by walking a 5km distance, starting at the top end of York Street down to the traffic lights at Nelson Mandela Boulevard, with a return walk to Unity Park.
According to one of the lupus warriors, Danelle Ontong, the disease is little understood and often misdiagnosed.
A support group for local lupus sufferers was established some two years ago, in partnership with Andrea's Gift, an organisation which aims to bring awareness of the disease.
