GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The world is in turmoil, experiencing tension and trauma. Therefor artists in the Southern Cape, Garden Route and Little Karoo are embarking on an effort to put an end to all this tainting and influencing of their art in this region.
A special competition, Expressions of Happiness has been launched by South Cape Association for the Visual Arts (Scava) and the association has pledged a goodly portion of its funds towards prizes.
The theme resonates with people outside the art world who have also pledged numerous prizes.
The competition is open to all artists. Membership of Scava get preferential entry fees, but the association has always welcomed all artists. The closing day for entries is 31 July.
There is only one rule. Artists are persuaded to complete a work which embodies their idea or expression of the word "happiness" or the feeling it imparts.
Members of sister societies will also be taking part - these are Wilderness Art Society, Sedgefield Art Society and artists from Great Brak River, Mossel Bay and Knysna.
More information is available on the Scava website and Facebook page or by telephoning the chairperson, Maura St. John, on 083 485 4177.
