On 17 January 2019, the 22-year-old Monique Muller’s body was found half naked in a church yard in Mahe Street in Zone 9.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, sergeant Chris Spies, she was raped, assaulted and murdered by two suspects three days earlier on 14 January. She also sustained two open wounds to her upper body.
The first suspect (30) was arrested in Thembalethu on 4 May last year. He did not apply for bail and has been in custody since.
