GEORGE NEWS - A young man (19) from George appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
He allegedly attacked and severely beat up a minor (16) at a Wilderness petrol station shortly after 22:00 on Saturday 29 June.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies confirmed the charge against the accused and said George detectives are investigating the matter.
According to unconfirmed information, the assault occurred due to an altercation between the two after which the victim, who may not be identified as he is a minor, sustained severe injuries and bruising to his head, upper body and face.
He was admitted to hospital shortly after the incident and is now recovering at home.
The accused made his first court appearance on Tuesday 30 July where the case was postponed until Monday 16 September for legal representation.
CCTV footage viewed by George Herald shows a group of friends waiting at the petrol station outside a restaurant in Wilderness on the night of the incident.
A fight arises between the minor and another young man until a security company arrives on the scene and intervenes.
