Update
GEORGE NEWS - A 33-year-old man from Thembalethu drowned in the Touw River in Wilderness in the early hours of Friday 4 September.
According to the Southern Cape Police’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, a resident living near the lagoon had heard someone screaming for help at about 01:00 and contacted the police.
“The Water Policing and Diving Unit and National Sea Rescue Institute personnel were dispatched to the scene. Police divers retrieved the man’s body from the water at about 05:15.”
The George Police have opened an inquest docket into the man’s death. An autopsy was conducted on Monday 7 September.
The autopsy report is not yet available, and the deceased’s identity has not been disclosed.
