Update
GEORGE NEWS - The man accused of causing the accident in which Danielle van Jaarsveld lost her life appeared in the George Regional Court on Tuesday 3 March. The matter was postponed to Tuesday 28 April for possible plea negotiations.
Gareth Webster previously appeared in the George Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 10 February.
Van Jaarsveld (41) died on 6 November 2022 following a head-on collision on Swartvlei Beach Road near the Sedge Links Golf Course in Sedgefield. She was driving a Kia sedan when it collided with an Audi SQ5 performance SUV driven by Webster.
Due to the force of the collision, Van Jaarsveld’s vehicle allegedly rolled several times before coming to rest at the side of the road. She died while being transported to hospital.
Her passenger, sister-in-law Monique van Zyl, sustained serious injuries and underwent multiple operations followed by extensive physiotherapy to regain the ability to walk. The two were reportedly travelling to the beach at the time of the crash.
Webster and his passenger were not seriously injured. At the time of the collision, Webster was allegedly driving a vehicle belonging to his then-employer, Audi Centre George. He had reportedly attended a golf day at the nearby course earlier that day.
