GEORGE NEWS - The remaining extortion accused who was arrested earlier this year during a sting operation in the Dormehlsdrift area, appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on Wednesday 13 June.
The accused, whose identity may not be revealed until he has pleaded to the charges against him, was denied bail.
This follows after he and a group of one woman and four other men, were arrested at a house in Plattner Boulevard on Wednesday 20 March after George police officers received a report about a group who had allegedly threatened a business owner involved in the construction industry.
The woman, from Knysna, and two of the men, from Kuils River in Cape Town, were released on bail of R5 000 each.
The other accused were scheduled to apply for bail at a later stage. However, after further investigation of all the evidence, the state concluded that there was insufficient reliable evidence to foresee a reasonable prospect of a successful prosecution against five of the accused at that stage.
The accused remains in custody and will be back in court on Wednesday 24 July.
