GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - A 28-year-old woman from Knysna and two men from Kuilsrivier, aged 51 and 54, were released on bail of R5 000 each in the George Magistrate’s Court earlier today, Thursday 28 March.
The trio, along with three other accused, were arrested at a house in Plattner Boulevard on Wednesday 20 March on charges of extortion.
The three accused remaining in custody will appear for their bail application on Tuesday 2 April.
The group of five men and one woman were arrested after George police officers received a report about a group who had allegedly threatened a business owner involved in the construction industry.
In response to the information, a sting operation was executed on the house in the Kingswood Golf Estate in Plattner Boulevard.
All three applicants who appeared for bail today denied having any knowledge of extortion and intend to plead not guilty to the charges against them. None of them have any previous convictions or pending cases against them.
They are also not deemed as flight risks.
“During the arrest, police also confiscated cash, two licensed pistols and an imitation firearm found in possession of the suspects," said Southern Cape police spokesperson Stg Chris Spies.
