GEORGE NEWS - Six people who are accused of charges relating to extortion appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on Monday 25 March.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Chris Spies, the suspects, all between the ages of 34 and 54, were arrested on 20 March after George police officers responded to a report about a group who allegedly threatened a business owner involved in the construction industry.
"A team consisting of various police units was assembled and the information was operationalised," said Spies.
A sting operation followed on a house in Plattner Boulevard where five men and one woman were arrested.
"Police also confiscated cash, two licensed pistols and an imitation firearm found in possession of the suspects," said Spies.
The suspects remain in custody.
The case is being investigated by Western Cape provincial detectives responsible for extortion.
