GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality has issued an urgent warning to residents about a housing subsidy scam currently circulating in the area.
Fraudsters are falsely claiming that properties allocated to beneficiaries of housing projects are for sale and demanding upfront deposits from unsuspecting individuals.
Residents are reminded that the municipality does not sell such properties, nor does it require advance payments for them. Any claims or posts on social media platforms, such as Facebook, suggesting otherwise, are fraudulent and should be treated with caution.
If you have engaged with these deceptive posts or been approached with similar offers, please contact George Municipality’s Human Settlements Department immediately at 044 802 2003. Should you have already made a payment, report the matter to your nearest police station and lodge a criminal complaint without delay.
The municipality urges the community to stay alert and help combat these scams by sharing this warning with family and friends.
Protect yourself and others from falling victim to fraud.
