SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - A 21-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged rape of an 18-month-old girl in Kwa-Mandlenkosi, Beaufort West.
The accused appeared in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 18 March.
The matter has been postponed to 26 March to allow for legal representation and a formal bail application.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies, it is alleged that the toddler was left in the care of the man on Monday 16 March.
Upon returning, the mother noticed her daughter appeared uncomfortable.
Further investigation revealed that the child had been violated. The incident was reported to the police immediately.
The Beaufort West Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit is investigating the case.
The accused remains in custody and is facing a charge of rape.
