This is lofty praise indeed, as this particular friend of mine demands the whole package when it comes to eating out: Excellent food, very reasonable prices, a beautiful milieu and fast and friendly waiters - nothing less will do.
1st birthday
At The Rose in York Street this is exactly what you can expect. This family owned restaurant is celebrating its first year of culinary success and over the past year Heyn, Ryan and Sandra have ensured that only the highest standards are maintained in all respects. Sandra says the people in George make their daily task pure pleasure. "Georgians are warm, supportive and friendly. We have received so much love from everybody that I feel our family has grown. Customers have become friends."
Great food and vibe
All the staff members at The Rose give that personal touch. Their faces light up as they greet you at the door, but the special welcome is only the start, as The Rose has created something for every taste and budget. The Rose is nowhere near la-di-da and it is beautiful without being exclusive or posh. The restaurant is relaxed and stylish with a great vibe.
The food is excellent and comes at extremely affordable prices. With a variety of main courses ranging from R38 to R125, parents can treat the whole family to a lunch or dinner without breaking the bank. The home-made hamburgers are delicious, while the Portuguese prego is a hit with young and old. Portions are huge and if you want something really special, dishes like the seafood platter or steak with caramelised onions and balsamic reduction are truly memorable.
Captain’s Table
A fresh concept in town is the brand new ‘Captain’s Table’ at The Rose. Feel like dining out, but don’t want to eat your meal in silence reading a book? Then the Captain’s Table is waiting for you at The Rose. The Captain’s Table is open to any client who wishes to sit down with other like-minded patrons of the restaurant. Everyone has his or her own bill, but dines in a group setting and comes and goes as they please. The table is there at all times and if you’re the first to arrive, Ashley or one of his team will make sure that you set the trend and have company.
Saturday spit
Another new highlight at The Rose is the Saturday afternoon spit braai on the lovely shaded patio. It starts off with a variety of beautiful salads, pâtés and home-baked bread at 14:00. The lamb, chicken, veggies and potato are ready at 15:30 followed with coffee and cake till 18.00. Patrons make a complete afternoon of Saturday lunch as live music gets the toes tapping before everyone indulges in a delectable array of eats created by expert chefs Heyn, Ryan, Tia and Sandra. All in all, a delicious three course meal for just R125.
Local musicians are welcome to contact The Rose to provide the entertainment on Saturday afternoons. They get a meal on the house and a hat is passed around for their benefit.
Tailor-made functions
The Rose also specialises in functions and has hosted many special wedding parties, birthdays, office parties and anniversaries of all kinds. The function menus are created to suit any occasion and budget, while brunches and tea parties are in high demand.
Cigar lounge and bar
A newly created ultra comfortable cigar lounge now nestles in the cosy bar where patrons are welcome to relax and catch up on the news from the variety of magazines and newspapers supplied.
So give The Rose Restaurant at the top of York Street a go. You will soon be meeting all your friends, even those from out of town, at the one and only Rose on York.
