Advertorial
BUSINESS NEWS - A new opportunity has arrived for the young people in the Garden Route who are eager to break into the tech industry.
South Cape TVET College has partnered with WeThinkCode_, a leading software development academy, to open a campus in George.
This partnership will support a new cohort of 30 students, offering them worldclass training in software engineering, completely free of charge.
This campus follows the first group, which began their studies at the Hessequa Campus in February, and they are on track to complete their training in May next year.
Now, the George campus will give even more local youth the chance to gain high-demand digital skills and build careers in tech without needing to relocate to big cities.
“We are not just teaching code. We are building confidence, careers and community,” says Ruvimbo Gwatirisa, director of partnerships at WeThinkCode_.
What the programme offers
- Free tuition for all accepted students.
- Sixteen months of hands-on training, starting with Python and Java, followed by real-world projects and specialised electives.
- Work-readiness programmes to pathway students into internship placements with local organisations in the Garden Route.
Why it matters
This initiative brings tech education to areas that are often left out of the digital economy. It gives young people in George and surrounding towns a real chance to build a future in software development, while keeping talent and innovation rooted in the region.
How to apply
If you are between the ages of 17 and 35 and ready to challenge yourself, visit www.wethinkcode.co.za to complete the online assessment. It takes about an hour and only requires a stable internet connection.
Applicants who pass the online assessment will be invited to a six-day bootcamp, where they will solve problems in teams and on their own. You do not need any coding experience to apply.
The process is designed to find raw talent and potential, not just qualifications. Those who succeed will join the George cohort starting in October.
