GEORGE NEWS - Curro George is a pre-school and primary school in George central and they are committed to giving learners in the local community access to a high-quality education.
"Our school is built on a balance of values that allow learners to learn and grow into the best versions of themselves," says the executive head, Chantel Brummer.
"We believe that a good education is the basis on which learners can grow to become strong leaders and responsible citizens who will make a positive change in their communities."
Curro George opened its doors in 2014 as a pre-school and transitioned into a full primary school in 2021. Curro George is based on four pillars: child-friendliness, positive discipline, Christian values (ethics and morals) and creative thinking.
"We provide an enhanced curriculum to learners from 3 years to Grade 5, with Grade 6 to be launched in 2024," says Brummer.
Class sizes are limited to make sure learners receive individual attention. Robotics is included as part of the enhanced curriculum and they also offer a bus service. The school also offers aftercare and supervised sessions where all homework is done.
"Our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This allows our primary school learners to explore the learning material beyond the textbook through research, experiments and assignments," says Brummer.
"Regular assessments and tests still take place, but it is important to us that learners can use their intellectual abilities to make the material real to them in some way. This approach is particularly relevant in subjects such as robotics and social sciences."
The foundation phase starts by preparing Grade R learners for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. In this phase, they learn the foundations upon which all further learning is based: language, mathematics, robotics and life skills.
Curro George has a wide variety of sports and culture activities on offer as well.
