BUSINESS NEWS - The Progressive SMME Initiative (PSI) is targeting new and struggling SMMEs with expert training, coaching and mentorship initiatives, with a special immediate focus on the construction sector in the Southern Cape, mainly George.
PSI Chairman Horatius Strydom said their aim is creating increased availability of compliant and skilled SMMEs to partner with corporates through their growing network of emerging SMMEs. Their immediate focus is on the construction sector in the Southern Cape and mainly in George.
He said the PSI's executive leadership team successfully participated in the Training of Trainers workshop from 21 to 25 July in Johannesburg under the auspices of the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) 'Decent Work in Construction Project'. "The project was implemented in collaboration with the Southern African Development Community and is funded by the Swedish Government."
The focus of the ILO was to capacitate local entities in South Africa in the concept of 'Decent Work', an initiative aligned to the ILO's definition, emphasising productive work with freedom, equity, security, and human dignity.
"The Decent Work framework, when successfully implemented by corporates after structured training and mentorship by PSI, will foster work environments that uphold worker rights, promote inclusive growth, and contribute to sustainable development of local SMMEs which include fair labour practices, social protection, and opportunities for social dialogue on construction sites," said Strydom.
PSI is a registered and compliant nonprofit company (NPC) established in 2024 with the sole purpose of facilitating the growth and increased capacitation of SMMEs in all sectors in South Africa, with an immediate focus on the construction sector.
