ARTS NEWS - The Southern Cape Art Association (Scava) invites art lovers to explore the intriguing space between what is and what could be with its latest group exhibition, Almost, at the Sayers Auditorium of the George Museum.
Opened on 31 July, the exhibition brings together 182 artworks by 47 artists, showcasing a diverse range of artistic styles and interpretations. The exhibition runs until 19 September.
Scava chairperson René Scribante said the theme challenged artists to explore uncertainty, potential, anticipation, change and the spaces between beginnings and endings.
"Almost lives in that quiet space between reaching and arriving, between certainty and doubt, between beginnings and endings," she said.
Artists were encouraged to respond to the theme, while also being given the freedom to include works that did not directly address it. The result is an exhibition that celebrates not only finished works, but the ideas, emotions and possibilities behind them.

For Scava, Almost is also about community. On 15 August, the association hosted an art networking event at the George Museum, bringing artists, art enthusiasts and members of the public together to discuss the exhibition, share the stories behind their work and connect with fellow creatives.
The next event, a chat and draw session, will take place on 12 September (09:30). Bring drawing materials and join the session. Scava will provide an installation/still life as inspiration. - René Scribante
