GEORGE NEWS - Cansa George collaborated with the George Department of Local Government, the Smoking and Alcohol Harms Alleviation and Rehabilitation Association (Sahara) and Bethesda George for a cancer awareness and health education day aimed at women from the local African community.

The event focused on the five most common cancers affecting women in South Africa, ways to reduce cancer risk, and the importance of annual health check-ups and screenings.

Bethesda nurses and Sahara community health workers conducted health screenings and Pap smears, and showed women how to perform breast self-examinations at home.

Although a translator was needed, the message of knowledge, prevention and empowerment remained clear.

The day gave the women an opportunity to engage with important health information while embracing their cultural identity and supporting one another.

Cansa George thanked the women for their openness and willingness to learn, and said the day was a meaningful one of connection, awareness and empowerment.
