GEORGE BUSINESS NEWS - PPC George Depot showcased an impressive new pneumatic offloading facility on Wednesday 11 March at a special function for customers and the media.
The new facility was built at a cost of R9-million in a bid to improve cement production and service delivery in the Western Cape.
Speaking at the launch, PPC Coastal Business Unit manager Johan Vorster said the new facility allows the business to receive product by rail, improving its turnaround to customers without compromising quality.
"It holds 45 tons of cement per hour. The risks that come with offloading by hand are minimised and our offloading time has been improved by 40 minutes," said Vorster.
"It's strategic location also bolsters cement production and delivery in the region, so this is truly a feature that embodies PPC's brand promise, 'Strength Beyond'."
He said the project gives the PPC George Depot a logistical advantage as it has the benefits of South Africa's road and rail transport network, while safeguarding the environment and human health by reducing the environmental impact of its material handling equipment.

The offloading facility includes the construction of a new 250 ton silo with its ancillary equipment located next to the old silo. Its compressor and electrical equipment are located in a container inside the warehouse. The piping for the pneumatic offloading system has been installed parallel to the railway line and warehouse.
"As a depot, we have a clear vision of how we continue to empower the community to experience a better quality of life. Our production of 100% local cement that has the PPC guarantee of 100% quality, drives our ambition," said Vorster.
