GEORGE NEWS - Carin Bezuidenhout was recently appointed as mechanical facilitator at Belcomec Training Centre - to use the cliché, a woman in a man's world.
She says she was determined to succeed in an industry dominated by men and she followed her dreams.
"I haven't experienced problems with the students as they respect my knowledge, but I suppose I will have to become more assertive. It is still early days."
Bezuidenhout (née Cronjé) did home-schooling in George and then completed her N6 in electronics and industrial instruments at South Cape College in 2004.
In 2005, at the age of 19, she started working at Stanmar Motors, primarily working on Mercedes Benz vehicles, and completed her NQF4 while in the workshop.
"In 2009, I was transferred to the Parts Department and continued with my course."
Early this year she passed her trade test and now has her Section 28 Red Seal certificate as proof that hard work really pays off.
Last month Bezuidenhout joined Belcomec Training Centre in Fabriek Street in the Industrial area.
"I am pleased to be part of a teaching team like Belcomec that tries to keep up to date in our fast-changing world by introducing new technology to the students as soon as possible. It is a challenge, but I am up to it."
