GEORGE BUSINESS NEWS - The internationally respected products by Baldwin Filters are now available to customers in the Southern Cape through JP Lubricants and JP Spares outlets throughout the region.
The reputation of these products has grown with the international expansion of the company, which also has an established history in South Africa.
Baldwin Filters originated as a small concern in the US with fewer than a dozen employees, but has since grown to a global business with a distribution network across six continents.
The company was started by JA Baldwin, a visionary who recognised the importance of improving mobile filtration. He designed a cartridge lube filter and began production in Wisconsin in 1936.
The company moved to an airfield in 1953 to take advantage of the central location and available transport. Between 1964 and 1981, the Baldwin Filter plant was expanded nine times to accommodate the company’s rapid growth. In South Africa, its success story followed a similar pattern and they branched out rapidly.
Baldwin Filters Africa was established in South Africa in 1988 as a predominantly air filter manufacturing facility under the name Unifil. In 1996, Baldwin Filters US obtained a controlling interest and the company began trading as Baldwin Filters SA. In 2006 the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of the US parent company.
The South African head office, warehouse and production facility is located in Cape Town, with an additional distribution warehouse and sales office in Johannesburg and smaller satellite sales offices in Durban and Port Elizabeth.
Baldwin now operates manufacturing and distribution centres in the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Belgium, China, Morocco, Australia and South Africa. Quality the top priority Baldwin’s team of engineers continually looks for ways to improve the product.
