GEORGE BUSINESS NEWS - Remember that saying by Benjamin Franklin, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?" This ties into the concept of prevention and early detection when it comes to our health and that of our loved ones. We owe ourselves a proper annual medical check-up.
At Doctor 4U that is precisely our aim. The check-up will cover the basic systems of the body with extra attention to problematic areas or specific issues noted by the patient.
The physical examination usually starts with the vital signs, which include the heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, temperature and weight. A basic urine test will also be done. This is followed by the examination of all the systems in your body, e.g. the lungs.
Blood tests for hormones, cholesterol, glucose and organ function might be ordered.
Specific complaints and worries will also be looked at.
You have the opportunity to discuss your diet and exercise habits and any tobacco, drug, and alcohol use with your doctor as well.
Extra gender-specific tests:
For MEN: Starting at age 45, or younger if you have a family history of prostate disease, a screening by urinating into the Prostaflo machine as well as a prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test.
For WOMEN: A Pap smear every one to three years, as well as a clinical breast exam.
Starting at age 40 (or younger if you have a strong family history of breast cancer), a mammogram is advised.
After age 65 or even earlier, a bone density test can screen for osteoporosis.
