GEORGE NEWS - A lightning strike during last night’s storm, sparked a wildfire on the mountain just west of Highland Lodge in Waboomskraal.
The fire is currently burning on land managed by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, which will be overseeing the aerial firefighting response.
Preparations are underway to dispatch a helicopter to the site as a precautionary measure, to assist in extinguishing the fire before it has a chance to spread further.
George Municipal Fire authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
